As the capital of Switzerland, Berne is very small in size with its only 135,000 inhabitants. But the romantic old city has one of the best preserved medieval town centers anywhere in Europe.
Its original architecture and installations and its many beautiful fountains have given the town the status of a Unesco World Cultural Heritage site. It is one of the loveliest cities in Switzerland.
The most famous buildings of Bern are the Zytgloggeturm (The Clock Tower) built in 1218 and the cathedral constructed from 1492. You can also enjoy a shopping trip on Berne's 6-kilometer stretch of arcade in the old town or relax at the crystal water at the bank of River Aare.
